Phaser 8400 Ink Uses Not Toner But Solid-ink Technology

There are now more affordable color laser printers than ever, ranging from discounted old printers to newer and smaller models. Every small office or working group can now use a high-volume laser printer instead of an ink jet printer. Many different vendors now offer color laser printers that are so inexpensive that even individual users can afford them.

A fast laser printer will let you crank out lots of black and white pages. A good inkjet properly used can produce high-quality photographic images. For some of the best of each, the Phaser 8400 uses solid-ink technology to quickly deliver rich, even color. And with PostScript compatibility and color-tweaking, you get performance unmatched by an entry-level color laser printer.

The Phaser 8400, also known as phase-change printer, works almost like an offset printing press. Its ink comes in four colors, yellow, cyan, magenta, and black. The ink, however, comes as chunks of wax or small drop-in shapes, unlike the usual liquid or powdered form. This why it is also known as a wax-jet printer. There are slots below the hood of the printer, where, these shapes of wax, almost toddler-toy like in appearance, can be lodged.

The fact that Phaser's software driver and front-panel LCD don't have a gauge to show the ink remaining can be uncomfortable to people used to regular ink and toner cartridge. The LCD does have a low-ink warning light. However, you can see the ink level by simply lifting the front hood of the printer, and can add more ink at any time without the uncertainties that come with newly installed cartridges.

Compared to the usual rigmarole of throwing away or recycling consumable cartridges and waste tanks, the Phaser 8400 ink is a friend to the environment, with one small, plug-in maintenance kit or imaging-drum lubricator to replace every 10,000 pages or 30,000 pages, plus a waste tray to empty and replace periodically.

The crayons are melted within the printer. It draws up to 1500 watts. The Phaser 8400 however, claims that the printer averages less than a fifth of that into an ink reservoir. There is a rotating drum inside which gets heated. The print head, which is a 1,236-nozzle, 600 by 600 dpi, sprays the ink onto the heated drum. Where low-priced color lasers print the matter in four passes, this requires just one pass to print the same matter.

The ink dries off immediately on the page, and unlike inkjet there is no seeping and this won't blot on the paper, also it would not smear when swiped with a damp finger, however this can be removed if scratched with a fingernail. Hence the printout when dry would appear damp. The printout would practically look like having been painted on with rich, glossy shades and the negatives like banding that inkjets and to an extend laser printers have are eliminated here.

Phaser 8400 ink doesn't utilize laser technology. It utilizes ink to make stunning color copies very rapidly.
